Hi! I’m Shelly Herrington, one of the Nurse Practitioners at Rock County Clinic and Hospital. I’ve been working in Bassett at least part time for 20 years and worked here as a nurse before that. Fun fact – I was actually born in this hospital!
I received my MSN and certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in 2004, and a Post-Master’s Certificate and certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2005. Both degrees were from University of Nebraska Medical Center.
When I’m not working, you can find me at the family ranch southeast of Bassett, or more likely, at a rodeo cheering on one of my 4 children.
Rural medicine is a literal lifeline for small communities, both in providing healthcare for you and your family, but also by providing jobs to many individuals in the area. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful facility here in Rock County.

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner at Rock County Hospital/Clinic. I received my Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Northeast Community College and worked as an RN in a critical access hospital in northeast Nebraska for 10 years.
While there I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Nebraska Medical Center and my Master of Science in Nursing-Family Nurse Practitioner from Clarkson College. Shortly after graduating with my FNP, a position became available at RCH, allowing my family to relocate full time to our ranch south of Bassett.
When I’m not working in the clinic or hospital, I can typically be found helping my husband with all aspects of ranch life. We have a son that is a freshman in college and a daughter that is an 8th grader. I spend any other free moment attending their athletic and livestock events. I enjoy working at RCH/RCC because I get to work together with my patients to help them achieve their health goals.
